Dales Bus Service

DalesBus is a not-for-profit organisation consisting of a team of unpaid volunteers who have managed the Sunday & Bank Holiday network for over 15 years. It is a success and an acknowledged best-practice model of how to run such a service efficiently and effectively.  It carries 45,000 passenger journeys a year from the Lancashire and Yorkshire conurbations to Wharfedale, Swaledale, Nidderdale etc.

Its primary aim is to give less fortunate and less mobile people in urban areas the opportunity to access beautiful countryside, which improves their physical and mental well-being. The Dales economy benefits from their visits, as well as the environment (taking cars off the roads).

The 823/5 runs from  York to Tadcaster, Boston Spa, Wetherby, Harrogate, Brimham Rocks, Pateley Bridge & Middlesmoor (Upper Nidderdale).

Due to cuts in funding from our normal sources, this bus is at risk next year. Thanks to a generous legacy donation we are part way there but we are still short of £5,000 to continue this route from April to October 2014. Let me assure you it is not one of these empty buses you sometimes see moving fresh air around, it is well-used as you can see from the attached photo  – last Summer there were over 2000 passenger journeys on this route.

We are hoping that organisations and businesses on the route will be able to contribute from £500 to £2000 to help save this valuable service. Please get in touch if you are able to help, or would like more information, or are able to suggest other sources of funding.

Sorry to put a time limit on it, but we need to know whether you will be able to help by the end of February. The actual cash can be donated at any time before the Autumn.
