Tadcaster Carnival Day 2013

At 10:30 today people started arriving at Ripon Farm Services on the outskirts of Tadcaster to start the final preparations for today’s carnival. The amount of work which has gone in to some of the floats is unbelievable, Calcaria Carpets, Devine Meats, Loves Hair and Beauty, the list goes on, there was Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The Wizard of Oz, James Bond, Star Trek,  and a whole host of film themed floats. At 12 noon the floats set off from their construction base and proceeded through Tadcaster.

As I walked from the float assembly point back through Tadcaster I was amazed at the turnout. The residents on Leeds Road had already assumed their positions for the parade, front gardens were converted into beer gardens and street corners were overflowing with everyone waiting to see the procession.

As I got further in to the town center the number of people was more than apparent, there was definitely a huge number of locals and visitors who had made there way down for the parade.

The procession made its way slowly through Tadcaster and finished at the Tadcaster Magnets car park, many people just had to go and see them close up to appreciate the workmanship which obviously went in to creating these fantastic floats.

Everyone then steadily arrived at the Tadcaster Magnets Sports and Social Club where there were lots of stalls and plenty of food, the fair has also been here all weekend which many of the children appreciated.

The Carnival was opened by Steve Cobb our Mayor, he also presented the Ambassador awards on the stage which was built for today’s music.

First to get the party started was Radio Mojo on stage with another amazing set which blasted out around Tadcaster.

Here are some of the pictures so far, I will also be adding some more videos to YouTube shortly.
