Tadcaster Young Firefighters

5Tadcaster Young Firefighters has been running since 2000 and over this period approx. 100 young people have completed the course.

On September the 24th we are looking to start with our next cohort of students and there are still 5 places available.

The course runs for 2 years and during this period candidates will work towards a level 2 BTEC Certificate “Fire and Rescue Services in the Community”

Candidates will be given the opportunity to partake in fire service activities and learn a range of skills such as team work, communication skills, problem solving, discipline and first aid. The qualification units cover subjects such as pumps, hose, ladders, extraction techniques, Leadership, and science of fire.1

Candidates will be challenged throughout the course having to work at height, in confined spaces and in wet conditions however they will be supervised and trained by fully competent firefighters throughout their time on the course.

The course runs for 2 hours a week between 7pm and 9pm on a Thursday evening and is for young people between the ages of 14 and 18. Each candidate is provided with their own set of fire kit for the duration of the course.

To date 10 students from across the county have completed the course and gone on to work in the retained fire service.
